Today is Saturday, which means it's time to tell something about the city in which I live. Well, let's get started. In this article, we will focus on the Volzhskaya hydroelectric power station (HPS). And also about the reservoir formed with its help.

For reference. Volzhskaya HPS is the main source of electricity for the cities of Volgograd and Volzhsky. Now, many years after the payback period, its energy is quite cheap compared to coal and gas power plants.

It is still the largest in Europe. I. from the 60th to the 63rd years, bore the title of the largest hydroelectric power station in the world. Its capacity is 2587 Megawatts. And the generated energy is 11.1 billion kilowatt / hours.

The decision to build it was made on August 6, 1950. This very grandiose construction was carried out from 1953 until 1962. Drawings and diagrams of the hydroelectric power station were compiled by eleven Scientific Research Institutes under the leadership of the organization "Hydroproject".

During construction, 130 million earthworks were completed; collected 5,462,000 square meters of concrete structures; installed 85 thousand different mechanisms. And the equipment for the station was supplied by more than 1,500 enterprises from 500 cities of the country.

People of various contingents took part in the construction process. About 10,000 young Komsomol members were engaged in manual labor. And also about 20,000 prisoners.

The appearance of such a large facility has greatly changed the ecosystem of our region. And the launch of the dam did entail human casualties, from the ranks of those. who flatly refused to leave the flooded area. There were about 249 such people, from the ancient city - Mologa. The flooded city of Mologa is often referred to as the Soviet Atlantis. Also, many small villages were flooded.

The level of the Volga River, coming from the dam, has also changed. It has noticeably decreased, and is no longer synchronous with the natural cycles of the rise and fall of the river level. The Volga-Akhtuba floodplain also suffered, which receives less water resources, which causes the reservoir to dry out, and the subsequent death of the ecosystem.

I think about the Volga reservoir and its features, a separate article should be written under the appropriate hashtag.
